NEW! Ultrafly Gearbox Series

Ultrafly Model, Taiwan, has made an extremely tough, versatile gearbox to fit various motors. The rugged plastic housing fits industry-standard 10x10mm stick mounts, so that the gearbox can easily upgrade GWS models, and a variety of other models using the stick mounting system. The 3mm output shaft is well hardened, and won't bend in the common nose-over landing. The shaft is supported by twin ball bearings for top efficiency at high rpm. The gearbox frame is especially rugged: made from very hard, resilient plastic, it insures that pinion and spur gear stay perfectly aligned, and is forgiving in a crash. Use MPJ-8031 Adapter for APC "E" props, or AC-ADAPWOBB-30 Prop Saver-Adapter for power loading under 100W with GWS or APC SlowFly props.

There are a total of 4 ratios available:

Fits "Speed 400" class brushed motors, but primarily intended for High Kv Brushless motors such as Hacker B20 L Series (use "400" heatsink adapter).

Intended primarily for the Mega 16 Series motors. Inside diameter is slightly larger. Will fit motors with 16/19mm mount spacing and 3.2mm shafts. We include special loctite for the pinions, as the setscrew may not provide enough purchase at high output levels.

Gearbox assembly:

Choose the gear ratio you wish from the supplied four sets of pinion and spur gears.
Press spur gear down on gearbox shaft such that the letters face the plain end of the shaft. Just push the spur gear a few millimeters down onto the knurled section of the shaft for now.
Insert both ball bearings into the gearbox frame
Slide the Shaft/Spur assembly into the frame from the front
Install the 3mm washer and "C Clip" to retain the shaft. The C-Clip has edges rounded on one side where the die pressed when it was made. Put this side DOWN (so the sharp edges are facing you).
Take a piece of thin cardboard (the paper hanger from GWS products is about right) to make a spacer. Cut a slot in the paper about 12mm deep (1/2") and 3.0mm wide (so it just fits around the shaft). Slide this tool between the spur gear and gearbox frame. Place the gearbox down on a table so that the BACK of the shaft contacts the table. Now press down on the Spur gear (around the center boss is best) until it firmly contacts the paper spacer you made. Pull out the paper spacer.
You're done with the gearbox!

Pinion Installation:

For 2.3mm shaft motors without a flat spot (D-Cut) on the shaft, you'll have to grind a small flat. The setscrew on the pinion will come near the very end of the shaft on most motors, so you need only grind about 5mm from the end of the shaft. (Hacker B20 and the Ultrafly motors). Be sure to protect the motor by placing it in a plastic bag. Punch only the motor shaft out through the side of the bag to expose it for grinding. You don't want metal filings inside the motor.
For the #UF-PSB-02 set - for 3.2mm shaft motors - apply a light coating of the supplied green loctite to motor shaft and inside of pinion gear. Check to determine the proper position of the pinion gear before you start, as the loctite will set in just a few seconds. Be sure to clean both motor shaft (a little sandpaper applied to the shaft is good, too) and inside of pinion gear to completely degrease them before applying the loctite.
Once the pinion is installed, mount the motor to gearbox. Check to be sure that the mounting screw length is correct! Screws which are too long can damage the motor.
Finished! Go fly.....
